The British rock star has given a surprisingly candid interview about his private life, revealing he was once “so ashamed” to be having sex.
Harry Styles has revealed how he once felt ashamed of his sex life in his most candid interview yet.
The 28-year-old British singer – whose third album is slated for imminent release – has begun to navigate his way through intimacy-related issues, a journey he detailed in a chat with Better Homes & Gardens.
The former One Direction favourite said was trust was a difficult concept for him amid his skyrocket to superstardom a decade ago.
“For a long time, it felt like the only thing that was mine was my sex life,” Styles explained.
“I felt so ashamed about it, ashamed at the idea of people even knowing that I was having sex, let alone who with.
“At the time, there were still the kiss-and-tell things. Working out who I could trust was stressful.”
Styles has had a series of high profile relationships, including with US supermodel Kendall Jenner, pop star Taylor Swift and now his current relationship with actress and director, Olivia Wilde.
He has rarely opened up about his relationships, preferring to keep them private.
During the era of his second album Fine Line in 2019, Styles also faced significant media attention about his sexuality.
The singer, who hails from Worcestershire, said it was a “bizarre and outdated” expectation to publicly announce how he identifies and who he’d slept with.
“I’ve been really open with it with my friends, but that’s my personal experience. It’s mine,” he said.
“The whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn’t matter.”
It has been over a decade since curly-haired, 16-year-old Harry auditioned for The X Factor.
During the 2010 series, he was placed in the judge-curated boyband One Direction, alongside Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik.
Since going solo, his career has continued to soar, with his name the first confirmed for the star-studded line-up of Capital’s Summertime Ball in June later this year.
