All this year’s best, worst and wildest Met Gala outfits

Kim Kardashian went to extreme lengths to fit into one of the world’s most famous and expensive vintage dresses at today’s Met Gala.
Celebs have today walked the year’s wildest and most extravagant red carpet: the 2022 Met Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Guests this year have been told to dress in the theme of “Gilded glamour, white-tie” and asked to “embody the grandeur – and perhaps the dichotomy – of gilded age New York”.
It appears to be a narrower remit than previous years, where broad themes like “camp” saw celebs dress in a wild variety of outfits – scroll on to see how many of them actually stuck to Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s sartorial instructions and who went rogue (we’re looking at you, Kodi Smit-McPhee).
First up, a look we’ve all been waiting for. Kim Kardashian went for classic, old Hollywood glamour - literally - by wearing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ dress.
Originally designed for Monroe by Jean Louis in 1962, it's considered the world’s most expensive dress, after Ripley’s museum in Florida purchased it for $6.8 million in 2016.
In a newly-published profile on Kim’s Met Gala prep on Vogue, it was reported that she went on a strict diet to be able to fit into the dress, which she’ll wear for just minutes on the red carpet before changing into an exact replica to keep the original safe.
Then there’s perhaps the night’s most confusing outfit: Red carpet photographers from Getty and most media outlets - yes, us included - initially reported that it was actor Jared Leto hidden in this truly bizarre ensemble:
But - shock! - it’s not him. It’s fashion entrepreneur Fredrik Robertsson:
Star couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner had two attention-grabbing red carpet moments - Sophie’s baby bump and Joe’s bizarre lace-trained tuxedo jacket:
Rapper Nicki Minaj is bravely carrying on despite apparently coming down with chicken pox:
Stiff competition but does Aussie The Power of The Dog actor Kodi Smit-McPhee have the night’s weirdest outfit? “So the theme is ‘gilded glamour’... where are my blue jeans, orthopedic shoes and washing up gloves?”
Whatever you think of rocker Lenny Kravitz’s outfit, there are few men who’d look this good in a combo of lace and leather at 57:
Jessica Chastain is giving glamorous tarot card reader:
Actress Dakota Johnson had a red carpet reveal:
Check out model Winnie Harlow’s striking headdress:
And the other angle on that photo - here’s actress Claire Danes:
Singer Billie Eilish is giving Dangerous Liasons in this corseted dress:
Aussie model Miranda Kerr looks ethereal in this classic white strapless gown:
Naomi Campell’s looking like fashion royalty from head to toe:
Country pop singer Kacey Musgraves has teamed her dress with the world’s fluffiest fan:
Controversial billionaire and new Twitter owner Elon Musk has brought his mum, model model Maye Musk, as his date:
Actress Dove Cameron looks like a Bird of Paradise with these ornate embellishments:
Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is pretty in pink:
Also rocking the pink, actress Tessa Thompson:
Here’s Vogue Editor and Supreme Met Gala Ruler herself, Anna Wintour:
Actress Julianne Moore is ethereal in white:
Emma Stone looks.... nice:
Cindy Crawford’s model daughter Kaia Gerber looks like the spitting image of her mum in her 90s supermodel heyday:
