Rumoured Samsung Galaxy S10 hits back at tech rivals with plethora of amazing features

First, Samsung announced the flip phone comeback. Now the company may be about to introduce its biggest smartphone screen yet.

It’s no secret that the latest iteration in Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone series will feature major technological advancements compared to its predecessors. After all, it is the 10th anniversary of the tech giant’s flagship smartphone.

Information from Wall Street Journal sources now suggests the new Galaxy S10, rumoured to be dubbed “Beyond X”, will include 5G network speeds, mammoth screens and more cameras. In addition, according to numerous rumours online, the S10 will come in three other models, similar to Apple’s release of the latest iPhone range. Samsung could be set to release a standard version, ‘S10 Lite’ and ‘S10 Plus’.

Smartphone competitor Apple released their 10th anniversary iPhone XS and XR versions earlier this year and it’s expected that Samsung will up their game to surpass tech rivals.

Samsung remains the largest smartphone producer in the world by volume of devices. However, in Q2, the tech giant recorded a profit slump, blaming lower-than-expected sales of the Galaxy S9 for the slowest quarterly growth since 2017. Attributed to the rise of companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei, Samsung faced a harsh tech sales climate, particularly in China and India, where rivals offered cheaper handsets.

Competition aside, the speculated features of the Galaxy S10 should be enough to excite tech fanatics and increase Samsung’s appeal. The WSJ says the ‘Beyond X’ may showcase the largest screen ever seen on a Samsung smartphone at 6.7 inches. Allegedly, the phone will also boast an edge-to-edge screen capable of hiding front facing cameras and sensors behind the display glass.

Speaking of cameras, the S10 is rumoured to have six. The addition of more cameras would increase the potential for the smartphone to be used as a photographic device. Theorised to contain four in the back, two in the front, the extra cameras could give users more zoom options, smarter focus abilities and a capability for AR (augmented reality) apps.

Earlier this year, CEO of Samsung’s Mobile Division DJ Koh confirmed the Galaxy S10 design will be “very significant”. Larger screens, improved cameras and 5G network capabilities certainly fit Koh’s boast.

As per usual, the new phone will also likely include a faster processor and CPU boost. The WSJ also says Samsung may be considering adding a reverse wireless charging feature, similar to competitor Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This would enable the Galaxy S10 to share its battery life with other devices. Better still, there’s potential for the inclusion of an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under its display.

The speculation around the new Galaxy S10 comes just weeks after Samsung made waves online with announcements of a smartphone than could unfold to transform into a tablet-like device. It’s likely that the four new phones, along the foldable tablet, will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in February of next year. Until then, we wait with bated breath.
