But his run with wrestling’s top promotion has reportedly come to an end.

That’s according to PW Insider, who claim the WWE brass “declined” to renew the legend’s contract.

Sources close to the wrestling website were stunned by the axing of Lawler.

They are quoted as saying: “The old company is dead.

“People can say they hate Vince (McMahon) and Kevin (Dunn) all they want, and they’d be right to do so.

“But certain people would have been taken care of.“Lawler would have been one, but this isn’t the old WWE.

Howard Finkel, God bless him, wouldn’t have had a job for life here anymore, either.

WWE fans around the world were left gobsmacked by the news of Lawler’s reported departure, which has yet to be confirmed.

One wrote on X: “How the hell does WWE not find something for Jerry ‘The King; Lawler to do?

Another said: “He’s one of the best on commentary.

And another said: “Thanks Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler for 32 years in the WWE.

You changed wrestling forever, see him down the road when we see him.”

One remarked: “I sincerely believe that Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler will always be a part of the WWE family.

Even if it’s not in an official capacity like being under some contract.

Another chimed in: “One of the GOATs of WWE. Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.

Lawler – who began wrestling in the 1970s – started his WWE career as an announcer on WWF Superstars of Wrestling in 1992.

He briefly quit the company in 2001 following the axing of his then-wife Stacy ‘The Kat’ Carter.

Lawler made a number of in-ring appearances following his decision to become a part-time wrestler, including at the 2012 Royal Rumble.

His health hasn’t been the best in recent years due to strokes he suffered in 2018 and 2023.

But the beloved Hall of Famer recently insisted he was fighting fit, saying: “My health is great.

“I just (went) over to the doctors to get back on the road from my knee replacement.

“And then of course, still some minor difficulties from the stroke.

But all of that stuff is coming around fast.
