As of now, his death is attributed to a stroke and not any complication of the coronavirus.

The Daytime Emmys posted a tribute to the star on its official Twitter page yesterday.

“We're devastated to share that John Callahan passed away earlier today. Sending our deepest condolences to Eva La Rue and all his loved ones,” the tweet read.

John married his Days of Our Lives co-star Eva LaRue, but the pair separated in 2005, and have an 18-year-old daughter, Kaya.

LaRue announced Callahan’s passing on her Instagram saying “May Flights of Angels Wing You to Your Rest my Dear Friend. You’re bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. We are devastated-My great friend, co-parent partner, and loving father to Kaya.”

In a second post, LaRue shared a series of photos of the former couple together, writing: “Love knows not its depth till the hour of separation.”

“Our hearts are broken,” she continued.

“Thank you so much for all the love and support, you’ll never know how much it means to us.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar also honoured the actor, who she claimed was a father figure to her.

“Get past the horrible eyebrows on me and you will notice the incredibly handsome man, standing beside, me at my high school graduation,” she wrote on Instagram.

“He stepped into a lot of moments in my life because I didn't have a father to be there. Johns greatest joy in his life, was when he had a daughter of his own,” she said.

Callahan portrayed Edmund Grey on All My Children from 1992 to 2006, and starred in 350 episodes of the hit show.

His last acting role was in 2016 thriller film Loyalty.
