Adele secretly split from her husband last year — but the divorce could still see her lose up to half her mammoth $275 million fortune.

Superstar singer Adele secretly split from hubby Simon Konecki last year, it has been revealed.

Experts say Simon, 45, could now get half the star’s $275 million (£150 million) fortune, The Sun reports.

They are understood not to have signed a pre-nup agreement.

The couple, who have son Angelo, 6, put the finishing touches to their separation long before yesterday’s announcement.

Documents show Adele, 30, sold their $5.5 million (£3 million) UK home in February. She transferred ownership of a house in LA to Simon in January.

And last month she enjoyed a secret divorce party — downing shots with A-list friend Jennifer Lawrence and having fun with a drag queen at a New York club.

A source revealed: “Adele started telling close friends and family about the split a couple of months ago.

“Jennifer was one of the first she told. The pair later arranged a double celebration — Adele to raise a glass to her future, and Jennifer to celebrate her engagement to Cooke Maroney.

“The girls have the same dark sense of humour that made them think it was funny. It was a brilliant night.”

Adele and Simon wed in secret in 2016 after five years of dating. But pals say their lives have recently taken them “in different directions and to different continents”.

Adele has been enjoying nights out with her Hollywood friends who also include Emma Stone, Amy Schumer and Ayda Field.

Simon’s eco-friendly brand Life Water funds global projects and has seen him travel a lot to Africa and India. A source said: “They tried everything in their power to stay together but in the end the time they were spending apart became too extreme.

“Simon has no interest in red carpets, showbiz parties or being on the scene, whereas Adele has been back in the recording studio of late, and is ready to get out and mingle again.

“She has a great social circle with a bunch of strong Hollywood women who love her for her humour and down-to-earth ways.

“They enjoy spending time at each other’s pads in LA and New York, hosting dinners and movie nights. At the same time Simon has been travelling to oversee projects. His passion for his cause and his success just took him away from his wife. They drifted in different directions.”

Publicly available files show Adele’s East Sussex mansion was sold in February for $5.3 million (£2.9 million).

The previous month she transferred an $890,000 (£488,000) three-bed property in Van Nuys, LA, to Simon.

The writing on the deed, dated January 24, states: “Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, spouse of Simon Konecki, hereby grants to Simon Konecki, a married man as his sole and separate property.”

Adele still has a $13 million (£7.3 million) mansion in Beverly Hills, LA, and a $13.5 million (£7.4 million) townhouse in Kensington, central London. She also has a $2.75 million (£1.5 million) flat in South West London.

The couple picked the Easter weekend to announce the split in the hope it would get less media attention.

The statement declared: “Adele and her partner have separated.

“They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy.”

Tottenham-born Adele has always been fiercely private about the relationship.

She first addressed the wedding publicly during an acceptance speech at the 2017 Grammys, where she thanked her “husband”.

The couple have long been the subject of rift rumours.

In December 2014, The Sun on Sunday reported they were no longer living together.

The singer, who has named all three of her albums after the ages at which she wrote them (19, 21, 25), took to Twitter the following day to refute the claims.

She wrote: “Just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays & all the best for 2015! PS Simon & I are still very much together, don’t believe what you read x.”

Last year she opened up about her battle with post-natal depression, telling Vanity Fair she struggled to adjust after Angelo’s birth in 2012, and felt “very inadequate” and “too scared” to have another child.

While Adele’s public appearances over the past few years have been few and far between, last month she was seen entering a recording studio in Manhattan — with speculation rife that she could reference the split in a new album, possibly called 30 or 31.

Days later she enjoyed the wild night out with Jennifer Lawrence. Adele was ushered on stage by drag queen Brita Filter.

Asked what she did for a living, the singer replied: “I’m actually, at the moment, a stay-at-home-mum.”

Quizzed on her relationship status, she replied “I’m married”, but when Brita asked if Adele was “ready to mingle and have a great time with the gays tonight”, she bellowed: “F***ing obviously!”

The generous star also dished out $420 ($US300) in tips to staff.

Last week she posed with Michelle Obama at the former First Lady’s book launch in London.

Eton-educated Simon shuns extravagance.

Funds from sales of his eco-friendly brand of bottled water go to the Drop4Drop charity, providing clean water to poor countries.

In 2012 he told how he had been a successful investment banker with Lehman Brothers but “got sick of that greedy and corrupted world”. While Simon could earn millions from the split, he has told friends he is not after her money.

One said: “Simon may not be worth millions but he is comfortably rich of his own accord. He is also deeply principled and wouldn’t dream of becoming a kept man, or demanding a ridiculous payout.

“Plus, he is well aware that Adele was already a superstar when they met and had millions in the bank. He is not after her money, and just wants their son to be happy and provided for.”

Lawyer Emma Gill said if the couple went for an “immediate” divorce in the UK they’d have to give a reason for the split such as unreasonable behaviour.

Emma added: “It means one of them has got to set out a catalogue of quite unsavoury attributes.

“If not, they’ve got to wait two years, and that’s very rarely in anybody’s interests.”

She said courts could deem the marriage as “medium-length”, based on Angelo’s 2012 birth.

Emma said: “If it was a short marriage, Adele would probably walk off into the sunset with her £150 million ($275 million) fortune intact.

“Because it’s pushed into that medium-length bracket, and some of her successes are squarely within her relationship with Simon, they might be liable to be shared — in other words, Simon could be entitled to half.”
