President Trump appeared poised to take credit on Tuesday for what is expected to be a winning bid by the city of Los Angeles to host the Summer Olympics.

“Working hard to get the Olympics for the United States (L.A.). Stay tuned!” Trump tweeted.

But the plan for Los Angeles to host the 2024 Games — led by Mayor Eric Garcetti — had been in the works long before Trump became president.

The city officially announced its bid, backed by President Barack Obama, on Sept. 1, 2015.

Los Angeles and Paris, the only two cities bidding for the Games, have long been expected to be named host cities for future Olympics.

Later Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee is likely to declare both L.A. and Paris dual winnersAccording to the Los Angeles Times, the decision will reportedly land Paris the 2024 Summer Games and offer the 2028 edition to L.A., which the city is expected to accept.

Trump has long expressed an interest in both the Olympics and, in particular, the international competition to host them.

In 2012, Trump weighed in after eight badminton players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were been disqualified from the London Olympics for throwing matches in a preliminary round to set up better seeding.

“No surprise that China was caught cheating in the Olympics,” Trump tweeted. “That’s the Chinese M.O. – Lie, Cheat & Steal in all international dealings.”

“Just letting China know in advance that the USA will win the medal count in the Olympics,” he added. “Even with your cheating you can’t beat us.”
