The nerves are probably not surprising given the last time the pop princess performed at the VMAs, in 2007, she received an onslaught of criticism on everything from her costume and body, to her lacklustre performance. It was supposed to have been a comeback performance after a tough year that included rehab, a breakdown, divorce and splitting from her manager, but it failed to hit the mark.
With an ongoing residency in Vegas, which is set to run through 2017, and new album about to be released, it seems Spears may be returning to form.
This year, she’s performing her new single “Make Me ...” at the awards show.
The singer also opened up about her appearance on James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” segment.
“The guy was just so incredibly sweet ... He controlled the whole thing, and sometimes I got onto him and said, ‘I don’t want to hear that song again.’ They didn’t show that part.”
