Megxit: Royal photographer says Diana would be ‘heartbroken’ by current situation

For 20 years, photographer Jayne Fincher spent almost as much time with the royal family as she did with her own.

Fincher, who in 1998 published Diana Portrait of a Princess – a collection of her images featuring the late Princess Diana, remembers first snapping the late royal in 1980 when it was rumoured the blonde, blue-eyed teen was dating Prince Charles.

Fincher would go on to photograph the royal family and closely document Prince William and Harry as they grew up.
 

As someone who was once so close to the family, Fincher believes the current state of affairs among the royals would likely be upsetting to Diana.

“(She) would be heartbroken, particularly as the boys have gone through so much together,” Fincher told Page Six.

“(Diana) would be doing everything she could to try and solve it. She’d be doing everything to be the peacemaker. She’d be shaking the boy’s heads together saying, ‘For goodness sake. What’s going on here?’ and I think she’d be trying to make peace between the girls, too.”

Fincher also told Page Six that she believed the boys’ father, Prince Charles, was likely upset by his sons’ strained relations.

“Charles must be broken-hearted because he’s extremely close to those boys,” Fincher said. “All through that period of grieving, they were close.

“That must be very devastating for him.”
 

Fincher says William and Harry were extremely close as children “because they did everything together”.

She describes them as “normal boys, full of energy, (who) couldn’t sit still, (and were) very funny”.

But she also noted the boys’ personalities were very different, even at a young age.

“Harry was quite a confident little boy actually and William was the unconfident one,” Fincher told Page Six.

“Harry was always the one who really wasn’t perturbed by the media or photographers. William had his head down like his mum in the early days, really hating every minute of it.

“Harry seemed such a happy young man,” Fincher noted. “When I watched that last documentary on him, it made me want to cry. I felt so sad for him. He’s really struggling.”
