Juan Soto is a Yankee, at least for one year. For the first time since they brought in Gerrit Cole, the Yankees have acquired a superstar from outside of the organization, acting like a team with their revenue should act. The Padres, meanwhile, did what they had to do to make up for a huge revenue shortfall thanks to the abrupt end to their local TV deal, getting an adequate return in talent but primarily clearing payroll space so they could keep the rest of a contending lineup together.
