The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on Saturday, firing thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel, as dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea. The offensive caught the country completely off guard and represents a "historic failure" for Israeli intelligence services, according to Middle East expert David Khalfa. 

There has been simmering tension building up between Israelis and Palestinians for a long time, but this week a “red line” was finally crossed.

According to Mr. Abu Oun, they replied, “We will show you how injustice will last.”

Violence has flared between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza, a day after seven militants and an Israeli soldier were killed during an undercover Israeli operation in Gaza.

Three others also wounded in the Israeli strike over the southern Gaza Strip, says health ministry.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, Israeli authorities say.
