The NFL's Twitter account was hacked on Tuesday, and whoever did it had social media gasping for a moment.

It appeared that the league was informing the country that controversial commissioner Roger Goodell had died.

It turned out to be a hoax. NFL media relations confirmed to Shutdown Corner that the account had been hacked. Goodell is alive and well.

But that was not the only attack. Along came another one, and it was fairly clear to the masses by this point that Goodell had not died.

And the hackers had another message. (Twitter.com)

Both posts now have been removed. But it had the league — and the football-loving Twitterverse — on its collective toes for a few minutes. Naturally, people had fun with this attack.

This hack followed one against another high-profile entity. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg had his Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Instagram accounts breached briefly on Sunday. A hacker group called OurMine claimed to have gained Zuckerberg's passwords ... will anyone claim the NFL attacks?

It appears no one is truly safe these days.
